What should I do if my flight is delayed?

Check the reason first — weather delays rarely qualify for compensation, but airline-caused delays often do. If the delay exceeds 2–3 hours, call the airline’s customer service line to rebook before the gate line forms; agents on the phone can often rebook faster than gate staff. Keep receipts for meals and hotels — many airlines reimburse controllable-delay expenses.

What each flight status means

ON TIMEThe flight is operating as scheduled. Gates can still change — recheck about an hour before departure.

DELAYEDDeparture has been pushed back. The reason matters: airline-caused delays (crew, maintenance) may qualify you for meals, hotels, or compensation; weather usually doesn’t.

BOARDINGThe gate is actively boarding. Doors typically close 15 minutes before departure — be at the gate now.

IN FLIGHTThe aircraft is airborne. Arrival estimates update en route and are usually accurate within 10–15 minutes.

CANCELLEDThe flight will not operate. You’re entitled to a full refund if you don’t travel — or free rebooking. Call the airline immediately; phone agents rebook faster than gate lines.

How accurate is live flight status data?

Very accurate for departures and arrivals — the data comes from airline operational feeds via Amadeus. Gate assignments are the most changeable detail; recheck them about an hour before departure and again on arrival at the airport.

My flight shows delayed — should I still go to the airport on time?

Yes. Delays can shrink as well as grow, and airlines board based on the current estimate. Unless the airline explicitly tells you otherwise, arrive as if the flight were on time.

The flight is cancelled. What are my rights?

If you choose not to travel, U.S. rules entitle you to a full cash refund — not just a voucher — regardless of the reason. If you still want to fly, the airline must rebook you for free. Call the airline’s customer service line right away; our directory lists every verified number.

Why do I see different times on different sites?
